Understanding The DDD System — A Guide For Arizona Families
If this is all new, you are not behind and you are not alone. Most families arrive here with more questions than answers. This page explains how Arizona's system works in plain language — no acronyms without an explanation, no pressure to decide anything today.

What Is Arizona DDD?
The Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD) is an Arizona state agency — part of the Department of Economic Security — that helps individuals with developmental disabilities and their families access services and support. If your family member has an intellectual disability, autism spectrum disorder, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, or a related condition, DDD may be able to help fund the care they need.
What Is A Support Coordinator?
Your Support Coordinator is assigned by DDD and is one of the most important people in your journey. They are your guide through the system — helping create your family member's Individual Support Plan (ISP), connecting you with qualified providers like us, monitoring your services, and advocating for your family's needs.
What Is An ISP?
An Individual Support Plan (ISP) is a personalized document created with you, your family, and your Support Coordinator. It outlines your family member's goals, the services they are approved to receive, how many hours of support are authorized, and which providers will deliver those services. Everything we do is built around the ISP.
Does DDD Funding Cover Your Services?
Yes. Our habilitation, respite, and attendant care services are covered under Arizona DDD funding for eligible individuals with authorized services in their ISP. Families do not pay out of pocket for services that are authorized in the ISP. Contact your Support Coordinator to confirm your authorized services and request our agency.
